The cheapest day of the year to book flights

This Friday (August 23) is historically known as the cheapest day of the year to book flights*.

Why?

Peak summer travel season is winding down and many people are shifting their focus towards getting ready for back to school.

And winter holiday travel season isn’t top of mind yet.

To maintain a consistent flow of passengers, August 23rd has historically seen the biggest drop in prices by airlines around the world.

Here’s how to prepare:

► Sign up for FareDrop to get cheap flight alerts (there’s a free version and pro version).

Even if you don’t book on Aug 23 or aren’t quite ready to book yet, past data has shown fares are pretty low in the following days or even weeks.

► Browse flightconnections.com which allows you to search which cities/airports are served by which airlines for direct flights

(in case you find an awesome deal from FareDrop at a nearby airport)

► Create a free account on Plannin to find discounts on your hotel (once you’ve booked your flight)

(they’re also running a contest for a chance to win a $500 hotel credit right now, too!)

►Browse my free travel toolkit to make sure you have everything you need for your trip!

Turns out, there have been a couple videos floating around that went viral (like, over a million views in a week) that stated that US airlines are now all following a new size for carry-on bags and that old luggage may not...
